The book’s young narrator, Beth Anne, observes divorce, parental addiction, and abusewhile withholding judgement and retaining compassion for the flawed and all-too-human characters who enter and exit her life. Author Bess Linnet comments, ‘The undercurrent of unease that permeates Three Before Nine: A Story of a Childhood reflects the impact of the actions of the adults who inhabit Beth Anne’s world. Bess Linnet grew up in Vermont, in the United States, but has lived in southwest London with her Swedish husband, their two children, and their Jack Russell terrier for many years. Three Before Nine: A Story of a Childhood is Ms Linnet’s first book-length work, a term she prefers to the more ubiquitous “novel” as fictionalised memoir falls intriguingly in the grey zone between fact and fiction. Bess Linnet self-published Three Before Nine: A Story of a Childhood as a paperback and an e-book with her own imprint, Snowsville Press, through Amazon on April 16th, 2020, during the height of lockdown in London. The paperback is now also available to bookstores and libraries through Ingram Spark.
